Hey friends!
Today I’ve got 3 cards featuring mixed media and stitching to share with you. I used the August 2019 Hip Kits.
For all 3 of my cards, I started with the mixed media backgrounds. I used the August Color kit and white cardstock. I used one of the Vicki Boutin stencils (the one with the hexagons), and texture paste to add a subtle pattern. Once dry, I used some of the Lindy’s magical powders to add color to the background and to bring out the hexagon pattern. I used the dry method; I sprinkled some dry powder to the cardstock, and sprayed water on the powder to activate the powder. On 2 of the cards, I left the powder in a certain area, but on one of the cards, I added color to the whole background. Once dry, I used a couple of stamps from the HKC exclusive stamp set for some subtle tone on tone stamping.
For my first card, I added a bit of subtle machine stitching to add even more texture to the background. I used a couple pieces from the Paige Evans Truly Grateful cardstock ephemera for the focal point and sentiment. I also fussy cut some little flowers from one of Paige’s pattern papers. I used some of the Pinkfresh Studio glitter enamel dots, and attached the entire thing to a purple card base.
I love how this card turned out…it’s my favorite!
For my second card, I used more Paige Evans ephemera flowers and fussy cut flowers, and Pinkfresh Studio glitter enamel dots. For my sentiment, I used a banner from the Paige Evans thickers sheet, and machine stitched it for added texture. I also added a little Vicki Boutin butterfly.
I love all the textures on this card…the stenciling details, the paper flowers, the stitching, the glitter on the enamel dots, and the shine from the thickers all add lots of interest.
For my third card, I machine stitched a big wonky circle on the background. I knew I wanted to use one of the PLS frames, and I wanted the stitching to be a subtle addition to the background. I placed the big Vicki B butterfly right in the middle. For my sentiment, I made a Hello banner by heat embossing the Hello stamp from the HKC exclusive stamp set on black cardstock with white embossing powder.
I love the marbled/ tie-dye look of this card!
I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty. I had so much fun getting messy with mixed media. I may keep my scrapbook layouts pretty simple and clean, but I do love getting messy every now and again. LOL!
