Easter 2017 layout, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!  I hope you are all healthy and happy!

Today, I’m sharing a layout I made using February 2018 Hip Kits.  The theme was Project Life, and since I don’t don’t do PL, I thought I’d share how I make a traditional layout with PL products.

I am scrapping our Easter from last year…oh how time flies!  Look at my little bunny!

I love using project life cards for layers, but I often use 3×4 cards to make a grid layout.  It’s easy to pick 6 cards, and then add photos, layers, and embellishments.  When I saw the pastel colors and the little bird card from the HKC project life kit, I knew I had to finally scrap my Easter photos.

I also used the Color Kit from this month.  I made the tag with the stencil and yellow paint from the kit.  It’s hard to tell from the photo, but I also used the stencil, and some Shimmerz glittery clear modeling paste (from the December 2017 color kit) on the top 1/3 of the cardstock.

The cardstock is from this month’s Cardstock kit, and I also used bits and pieces from the Main Kit and Embellishment kit.

That’s it for me.  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!

Happy Friday!

The Coloring Challenge road trip, and a card featuring Honey Bee Stamps

Hello friends!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently stepped out of my comfort zone, and headed to meet Kathy of The Daily Marker on her Coloring Challenge road trip.  When I found out she was stopping in Texas, I was so so excited, but nervous too.  I’m a bit of an introvert, so I was debating whether or not I should go.  After debating with myself, the spots were filled.  Later, when I found out she was opening up another day, I didn’t even think about it and I reserved my spot.  This was going to be my first crafty event with people, in real life…ha!

Since I had never been to a crop, or a class, I reached out on Instagram to see what I should pack.  Kathy suggested we bring a few stamped out images, and some coloring mediums.  I packed some stamped out images, Copic markers (not all of my collection, but still quite a few), one tin of distress inks, an ink blending tool, a water brush, my Misti, Memento ink, scissors, and a few pieces of Neenah white cardstock.

The event was held at Scrapbook N More, in New Braunfels.  We got to learn some coloring tips and tricks from Kathy, and fantastic watercoloring tips from Lydia.  If you ever get a chance to go to one of Kathy’s Coloring Challenge road trips, I highly recommend that you do!  I’ve linked her blog, so you can read more about it.

Kathy is so generous with her time, her knowledge, and her supplies.  While we were there, Kathy had some Honey Bee stamp sets that she let us use.  I saw the Seasonal Sweeties stamp set, and I had to try coloring the girl and her dog with umbrellas.  It is such a cute image!  We were there almost 7-8 hours, and I only colored 2 things, lol.  I colored a full floral background image that I had pre-stamped (which I didn’t end up liking), and most of the Honey Bee image.  I’m a pretty slow colorer, but that’s ok.

I don’t normally copic color my backgrounds, but I wanted to give Kathy’s rag & blending solution technique a try.  I love the way it turned out!  The texture makes it look like it’s raining…perfect for this card!

Here’s the final card that I created:

I colored the entire image with copic markers.  I colored her hair and the umbrellas in with Nuvo aqua shimmer glitter pens.  I also added some highlights in with a white Prismacolor pencil and a white gel pen.  I then masked off the girls face and most of the pup, and gave the entire image a spray of Perfect Pearls spray, which just enhanced the rain effect.  The sentiment is from Honey Bee’s Thanks stamp set.  I stamped it with Versafine ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

I love how this came out!  If I had planned better, I could’ve made this a one layer card, but I do love popping up the panel with foam adhesive.

If I learned anything from this even, it’s all in the details, and the nooks and crannies!

Here is a group pic of some of the attendees!

Friendship, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey guys and welcome!  Today, I’m sharing a layout I made using the Hip Kit Club February 2018 Main Kit only.  There is so much jam packed into these kits, you can really make fantastic layouts with the main kit only.

I made a layout about my daughter and her friend taking horse camp together.  I just love their friendship.  They took horse camp together in previous Spring Breaks and Summer Vacations.  They loved the horses and learned so much!  I need to get L back into horse camp because she loved it so much!  Now that E is old enough, I’m sure she’d like to go to horse camp too…

Here’s my layout:

With the exception of white cardstock, and the ink splatters (which are from previous color kits), my entire layout is made using the February Main Kit.

I loved the Pinkfresh Studio pattern paper with all the greenery, and I wanted to feature it in a big way.  I also loved the soft pink and yellow colors in the kit.

I love the way my layout turned out.  If you’ve been following me for a while, I tend to be more minimalistic.  I am a big fan of white, and negative space, and this layout has an abundance of both.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope I have inspired you to get crafty!

Happy Sunday!

Thanks card, Butterfly Reflections Ink

Hey friends!  Today, I’m guesting on the Butterfly Reflections ink blog.

I’ll be using Pretty Pink Posh angel friends stamp set.  I must admit that I bought this stamp set in early December with every intention of making holiday cards for my happy mail friends, but life got in the way, and I didn’t make a single Christmas card this past year.  Ha!  Sigh.  I was determined to use this stamp set though, so I had to think a little bit out of the box.

Here’s what I came up with!

a set of Altenew Peony Blossom cards + a giveaway!

Hello friends and welcome!

Today, I’m sharing a set of cards featuring the new Altenew Build-A-Flower Peony Blossom stamp and die set.  The set includes 15 stamps and 8 dies.

BAF Peony Blossom squareStop by the Altenew blogs, and leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or Altenew Scrapbook Blog for a chance to win a $30 gift certificate.  There will be 6 winners total, 3 on the card blog, and 3 on the scrapbook blog.  You can also leave a comment here on this blog post for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate.  I will draw a winner on February 16, 2018.

I made 2 cards with this stamp and die set.  On one card, I used both the stamp and dies, and on the second card, I used the dies only.  This set is so versatile, and can be used on a variety of cards and projects.

I used distress inks, and the sentiments are from the Altenew Build-A-Flower Sakura Blossom stamp and coordinating die set, which I featured in an earlier blog post.

Make today beautiful:

To make this card, I blended some various colors of distress inks on a big piece of white cardstock.  Next I die cut some flowers, stamens, and leaves.  Then I stamped the second layer of stamps with a slightly deeper ink on the flowers and leaves.  I put together the flowers with foam squares for dimension, and curled the petals and leaves.  I die cut a stitched rectangle from white cardstock, and stamped my sentiment.  I adhered the florals, and popped the whole thing on a white card base with fun foam.  To finish my card, I added sequins and Nuvo drops for added embellishment.

Wishing you a lovely birthday:

I made this card the same way as the first, but I didn’t add the second layer of stamping.  I also added some gold ink splatters instead of sequins and Nuvo drops.

I really love how my cards turned out.  The set is great, but I love the dies especially.  They would be great on scrapbook layouts as well!

The Peony Blossom Build-A-Flower has a slightly different approach than our conventional Build-A-Flower sets. The stamp set has three five-petal flowers accompanied by a shading layer and a center layer. You may use these flowers as is, or layer them to create dimension. The matching dies will cut the flowers all the way to the edge without leaving a border. This will help in shaping the petals to the desired dimension when using a shaping tool (don’t have a shaping tool? You can use the domed end of a pen or pencil!). We included an additional flower die and stamen dies to help you create realistic blooms! Even though we named the set ‘Peony Blossom’ since the petals were loosely based on Peony petals, you can let your imagination run wild and create different types of flowers!

This special product is only sold as a set, not individually.  A peony blossom and ink bundle is also available.

That’s it for me!  Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to leave a comment here and on the Altenew blogs for the giveaways.

Good life, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello creative friends!  Today, I’ve got a layout to share with you using the Vicki Boutin watercolor stickers found in the January 2018 Main Kit.

I finally scrapped some Pie Face photos.  That game was so popular a little bit ago…and my girls were begging to play it.  Have y’all played it?

My layout features the Vicki Boutin water color stickers.  I think the stickers are great, since you can use them as is (black & white), or you can color them whatever colors to suit your project.

ahsang HKC goodlife 1

I colored some of the stickers with copic markers, and I left some black and white.  I also fussy cut the flowers and leaves, but left other stickers as is with the white border.

I used bits and pieces from all the January 2018 kits: the Main Kit, the color kit, the project life kit, and the embellishment kit.

I hope you were inspired by my project, and are inspired to get creative.

Happy Friday y’all!  TGIF!
