July 2015 craft & beauty favorites

Hello!  I cannot believe that July is over!  July is a pretty big month for us.  My younger girl celebrated her 5th birthday, and my husband and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this month.

Here we are at the end of another month…these are a few things I have been loving in the month of July!

My crafty favorites:

1.  Simon Says Stamp Wide Stripes background stamp & Simon Says Stamp 6×6 tiny spaced hearts stencil.  I have been all about the background lately!  I included a piece of card stock where I used the stripes background stamp, and I also added ombre hearts using the stencil on top to give you a visual of how these products look in action.

2.  Who knew that the Absorber is absolutely awesome at cleaning your stamps?!  I first saw Kristina Werner using it to clean her stamps.  I have used this product for many years to dry my car after a wash, but I bought a brand new one just for my stamps!  I cut it into about 9×9 inch squares, got it wet & rung out the excess water, and stuck them in a plastic storage container.  You can get the absorber in the automotive section at the grocery store or on simonsaysstamp.com.

3.  I love my custom “handmade by” stamp from etsy shop Stamp Couture.  It’s so nice to stamp the back of my cards!

…and onto my beauty (& snack) favorites:

1.  BarkTHINS dark chocolate touted coconut with almonds…so YUM!  It’s sad to say, but this is my 3rd bag already, and I’m sad that I’m out!  Since it’s dark chocolate, it’s not too sweet, and the toasted coconuts add just the right somethin’ somethin’.

2.  Paula’s Choice Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion.  It’s fragrance & dye free!  I have used this lotion for over a year now, and it’s a great light-weight moisturizer perfect for Texas summers!  I had ran out of this lotion, but I didn’t feel like ordering it and waiting for shipping, so I tried a few samples of a couple of light-weight moisturizers at Sephora.  I should have known better, because I didn’t like the texture, or they were super pricey, and I broke out.  I have super sensitive skin, and my skin is oily in the summer, so I like for my moisturizer to sink in immediately, and I prefer fragrance free products.  I had to go back and order my tried and true favorite at Paula’s choice.  I believe you can only get Paula’s Choice on their website, paulaschoice.com.

3.  Wet n Wild Contouring palette in Caramel Toffee.  I believe this palette is exclusive to Wal-Mart.  I have been loving this palette and use it for a variety of things.  I use the highlight color to set my under eye concealer, I use the contour color to contour my cheeks and a little on my nose.  I also use this palette as eyeshadows.  The highlight color is perfect for an all over lid color, and the contour color is great to add a little definition.  This was a super affordable (under $5), great buy!

4.  Invisibobble traceless hair ring.  This is supposed to be a hair-tyer.  It reminds me of those wrist chains or the phone cords (trying not to date myself here, lol!).  I received this in a sample beauty box, and I was highly skeptical…but it works!   The plastic rings kind of grip your hair, and it stayed in place!  Normally, I have to re-tie my pony a few times a day, but not with this!

That’s it!  These are just a few things I’ve been loving in July.  I’d love to know what you’ve been loving!

Happy Thursday!

Rainbow Turtles card featuring lawn fawn

Hello crafty friends!

Today, I have a shaker card and a gift tag to share with you!  I’m participating in the Lawnscaping Challenge: COLOR inspired by the rainbow.  I’m using the mini stamp set by Lawn Fawn called Year Two.  This set is very affordable ($3.99), and by repeating the image, you have enough content for a full card!  Supplies will be listed at the end of my post.

Here’s what I came up with:

Here is a closer look of the shaker card:

The back ground is water colored and I embossed the sentiment for a little extra shine & texture using versa fine onyx black ink and clear embossing powder.  This is actually my second time at this card.  Here’s a helpful tip for you crafters: make sure you don’t have inky fingers, especially when dealing with white card stock.  {sigh}  I had finished my card, picked it up to photograph, and got black ink smudges all over the white frame.  I don’t know where I picked up ink on my fingers…maybe there was some Versafine left on my acrylic block & I picked it up while tidying up?  The sad part is that I managed to get a few tiny smudges on this new card as well.  Butter fingers!!!  I originally wanted to use my favorite sparkling clear sequins on the outside, but I switched to the gold tones to strategically cover up 2 small black ink smudges.  You’d never know!  Whew!

…and now, here is a closer look of the gift tag:

3 cards with lots of stripes and watercoloring

Hello crafty friends!

Ever since the pretty pink posh watercolor blog hop (you can see my post here: water color blog hop), I have been loving water coloring on my cards.  Even though water coloring isn’t my strong suit, it has been fun to experiment with different techniques and different water color mediums, like the Zig real brush pens and Distress inks.  I have also always loved stripes, so I ordered the Simon Says Stamp wide stripe background stamp as soon as it was back in stock.  A lot of my cards lately have stripes, watercoloring, and clear sequins.

Today, I am sharing 3 recent cards that I made.  I will list the products I used at the end of the post.  Also, I ordered a custom “handmade by” stamp from etsy (shop name is Stamp Couture), and I love it!  It’s so nice to just stamp the back of my cards.

I wish you could see these cards in real life.  The colors are so vibrant, and I added some sparkle with my wink of stella glitter pen.  All the ballons are covered with the glitter pen and glossy accents.

Mama Elephant rainbow card

Hey everyone!

Today, I’m sharing a card I made.

ahsang rainbow card 1

On the Mama Elephant blog, the challenge for July is RAINBOW, which turned out to be perfect for me.

Towards the end of the daily marker 30 day coloring challenge, I had colored the Mama Elephant large image from the Photo Bomb stamp set using copic markers.  Later, I added the hash tag #theHumanRainbow after I watched Sandy Allnock’s video on coloring different skin tones.

So, using my paper trimmer, I cut out the colored image to look like a polaroid.  I stamped the smile sentiment from the Mama Elephant photo bomb stamp set on the bottom.  Then, I cut a piece of black card stock to back my image and used foam tape to make it pop from the background.

For the background, I used the Simon Says Stamp tiny spaced hearts stencil.  I used Ranger Texture paste and Distress inks to create a rainbow.  I love the way it turned out!  This was my first time using texture paste, and it’s so fun!  You’ll be seeing texture paste on my next few projects I’m sure!

On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from the same Mama Elephant Photo bomb stamp set, and colored in the letters using copic markers.

This card was so much fun to put together!  Leave any questions in the comment section, and I’ll try my best to answer!

Happy Monday y’all!

June 2015 craft & beauty favorites

Hello all!  Hope you’re having a great day so far!

Today, I’ll be sharing the few things that I have loved in the month of June!

ahsang june fave 1

First up, are my crafty favorites:

ahsang june fave 2

1.  The 2nd 30 day coloring challenge hosted by Kathy at thedailymarker.com.  I have loved taking part in this coloring challenge!  Coloring is really a great way that I have been able to de-stress, be creative, and meet new friends on instagram.  I was able to color 21 out of the 30 days…not bad, but maybe I can do all 30 days the next round?!  If you haven’t heard about this challenge, you can go to her website, or check out the hashtag #thedailymarker30day & #thedailymarker30day2 on instagram.

2.  Zig Clean Color real brush markers by kuretake.  These little water color brushes are so vibrantly awesome!  You can color with them like regular markers, full strength, or you can put a little color down, and use water to blend them out.  At first, I wasn’t sure what I thought of them, but it took a little practice before I got comfortable using them.  I like to put a little color down, then blend out with water (or a different color), and then repeat in small sections.  I find working in small sections works best for me.  I bought a 12 pack, and then purchased a few individually.

3.  Circle dies by spellbinders.  These are perfect for shaker card windows!  I have also been loving circles in my scrapbook layouts lately.  You can see an example in my previous post.  As I said in that post, I used to use circle punches, and I traced and hand cut circles for my layouts.  Now that I have circle dies, it has been so much easier!

Next up a just a couple of beauty favorites.

ahsang june fave 3

1.  First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads.  I have been loving this product because it is such an easy to use all-in-one type of product!  In each container are 60 round pads already soaked with product, like lactic and glycol acids and cucumbers and lemons, that serves as both a gentle exfoliant and toner.  I use one of these pads every night after cleansing and before moisturizing…love it!  It has been perfect for my sensitive skin!  (I saw they are having 20% off on their website through July 4, 2015)

2.  Urban Decay all nighter makeup setting spray.  This is like hair spray for your face.  Since it’s been so hot here in Texas, I use this product to set my face on occasions when I have spent a little more time on my makeup.  When I take more time with my makeup, I don’t want it melting off my face in an hour or two.  This spray helps with that.  I usually purchase the travel size, because I don’t do a full face of makeup very often, and this bottle will last me all summer.

That’s it for this month!  What products have you been loving lately?

Happy Thursday!
