Autumn Vibes, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello crafty peeps!

I was challenged to make an autumn layout using a cut file, so that’s what I will be sharing today.  I am using the October 2018 Hip Kits.  I am using the Main kit, Cardstock kit, Embellishment kit, and Project Life kit.  I am also using an October cut file, which you can access here once you’ve logged in to your account;  I am using the Autumn Vibes Subscriber cut file, designed by Kim Watson.

When I was in high school, living in the South, fall meant football season.  I was in the marching band, and I have so many fun memories of sitting in the stadium…so happy when the weather got chilly because it meant we could have hot chocolate, cheering on our football team playing fan favorite tunes.  My husband and I met in high school band, so we both share those memories.  It’s come full circle for me, as my daughter is now entering this season of her life.  She’s only in middle school now, but she’s in band and on the dance team, so she’s already at the football games.  Now, I get to experience these games in a new way, as a parent, and perhaps a chaperone.

Back to the layout:  I die cut the sentiment, my title, out of the Arroyo cardstock from the kit.  I knew I wanted a vertical layout, so I added some mixed media to the background down the middle of my paper.  I added some shimmerz splatters from older color kits, and I also used a paint brush to paint on a little bit of color where my photo will be placed.  Then, I used a stencil from a previous color kit to add some white embossing paste for a tone on tone look.

Next, I chose some flowers and leaves from the Paige Evans whimsical floral embellishment pack to frame my photo.  I fussy cut some of the labels from the PE Whimsical 08 paper, and machine stitched them on my layout.  I also used some of the Jen Hadfield phrase stickers.

ahsang HKC autumnv 5

Then, I just looked for little embellishments to fill in some of the spots on my layout.  I used stickers, puffy stickers, and rub-ons for the PE whimsical collection.  I also used the Happy tag from the Vicki Boutin embellishment pack.

ahsang HKC autumnv 4

I added my journaling strips that I typed up on the computer.  When I was designing this layout, Kenny Chesney’s “The Boys of Fall” song popped into my head, so I did a little play on the lyrics, and made my journaling about the girls of fall.  I thought it was cute, but is it cheesy?  haha!

ahsang HKC autumnv 6

To finish off my layout, I just added a couple of torn edges on each side of the layout, backed it with pattern paper, and added machine stitching, a la Missy Whidden.

That’s it for me today friends!  I hope you liked my layout, and I hope you’re inspired to get crafting!  If you haven’t checkout out these kits yet, I highly encourage that you do!

Peace, Joy, and Mad Love holiday card, featuring Mama Elephant

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing a holiday card I made using Mama Elephant stamps.

ahsang ME kittytree 2

I am a dog Mom 100%, but when I saw the Oh Kitty Tree stamp in Mama Elephant’s new release, I had to have it!  It is so cute!  I also used the snow flakes and the sentiment from Mama Elephant’s City Sidewalks set.

I will have these stamps and supplies linked below.

ahsang ME kittytree 1

To make my card, I first stamped the kitty tree image with gina k. amalgam ink onto neenah white cardstock.  Then, I colored the image with copic markers.  I didn’t keep track of all the colors I used, but I will list as many as I can remember.

110, C7, C5, C3, C1, C00, W1, W00, E70, E74, YR27, Y21, E50, E21, R20, R24, R46, R39, BG02, BG05, RV21, RV04, & RV06.

After I colored all the kitties, I was undecided on how I wanted to finish my card, so I created a poll on my Instastories on whether I should fussy cut the image out (I didn’t purchase the coordinating dies), or whether I should color the background and make it a one layer card.

Going along with the majority, I decided to carefully fussy cut the image…it was really tough going around the ornaments the kitties on the edges were holding, but I managed to do it!

ahsang ME kittytree 5

Next, I decided to concentrate on the background.  First, I used an ink blending tool to get some distress ink on the background.  I used Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean, and Spun Sugar…my favorite combo for winter skies.  Then I used Perfect Pearls shimmer spray to get some shine on the background.

Once fully dry, I used some of the snowflake stamps from the City Sidewalk set with white embossing powder to heat emboss the images.

On a separate piece of white cardstock, I used the “peace. joy. and mad love” sentiment from the City Sidewalk set and gold embossing powder to heat set the sentiment.  Then I die cut a snowy hill using the landscape trio dies.

ahsang ME kittytree 3

I put all my background elements together using some foam tape for dimension.  Then, to add an interactive element to my card, and a little bit more fun, I attached the fussy cut kitty tree to my background with an action wobbler.  I will have a video in my Instagram if you’d like to see it in action.

I love love love how this little card came out!  It’ll be hard to let it go, LOL!

Some things never change, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing an all-about-me layout inspired by the October mood board.  This is my first project using the October 2018 kits, and I have to say, I am in love!  I am using the Main Kit, Project Life Kit, and Embellishment Kit.

ahsang HKC some things 2

Here is the October mood board:

I was inspired by the top middle image.  I love the layered look, the torn edges, and the colors.  I also like that there was some white space left in the top of the image.

I started off by cutting up some pieces of pattern paper from the kits into various widths, tearing some of the sides.  Next, I arranged the pieces of paper how I liked them on white cardstock, making sure to keep the adhesive close to the bottom edge only, as I wanted the tops of the papers to raise up from the cardstock to add texture and depth.  I added some machine stitching to the pieces as well.

Next I added some gold splatters (Heidi Swapp gold color shine) and let it dry.

ahsang HKC some things 6

Then it was time to add my photos.  Since I was challenged to make a layout all-about-me, I chose a recent photo of myself and my high school cap and gown photo.  My 20 year high school reunion recently passed, and my husband and I couldn’t help but remember our time together in high school.  We were band nerds, haha!  On my layout, I decided to talk about how some things never change.

ahsang HKC some things 3

Next, I added my title, and some journaling strips that I typed on the computer.

ahsang HKC some things 5

To finish off my layout, I just looked for embellishments that helped compliment my story, keeping in mind the color scheme I wanted to stay with.  I really love all the crafty themed embellishments in Paige Evans’ new Whimsical collection!

ahsang HKC some things 4

I am really pleased with how my layout turned out.  I really love all the texture and dimension in my project!  Without the mood board, I am not sure I would ever have come up with this layout idea!ahsang HKC some things 1

I hope you like my layout, and I hope I’ve inspired you to dig into your Hip Kits.  If you haven’t gotten your hands on the October kits yet, stop by the website and take a look!

Happy Monday!

a Pair of Cards, featuring the Spellbinders October large die of the month kit.

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing 2 cards that I created using the October 2018 Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders.  You can get all the information about the kits and how to join on their website here.

I absolutely love these metal dies!  Living in Texas, you see a lot of trucks, and I think the older ones are so photogenic, so to speak…

The truck die reminds me of a truck that I like to take photos of, on, in… here is an example:

ahsang maternity

This photo is from a few years ago.  Isn’t the truck, my girls, and my baby bump cute?

Back to the cards…

I used colored cardstock, silver cardstock, glitter paper, and pattern paper to die cut the different elements of my card.  Before I glued everything together, I used distress inks to age the truck, and a few Copic markers to add just a little bit of shading.

ahsang spbds octkit 3

For the Christmas card, I used distress inks to create a chilly, early morning background.  I added some snow flurries using white ink.  I hand cut a snow bank, and added another sentiment.  Then, I attached the entire thing to a white card base, added red & white twine, and called it done.  I love how this card turned out!!!

ahsang spbds octkit 4

For the Fall card, I used pattern paper and green cardstock for my background.  I used the same sentiment as the Christmas card.  I mounted it all with foam adhesive to a craft colored card base, added a string orange and white twine, and I was done.  I really like how the plaid paper really gives the card a farm/country look.

This die kit is awesome!  You could make so many different cards with it, because you get so many different pieces!  These would make perfect masculine cards too.

I really love how these 2 cards turned out!  Don’t forget to check out the Spellbinders shop for more goodies and inspiration!

Happy Saturday!

Smile, featuring Hip Kit Club, and a YT process video

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing a layout I made with the September 2018 Hip Kits.  I was challenged to use fall leaves in my layout, as well as concentrate on the Main Kit.  I must admit that I forgot about the Main Kit part, and I started off by using the Main Kit, Color Kit, Project Life Kit, Paper Kit, and Cardstock kit…ha!  If you watch my video, I tried to fix my mistake, and the majority of the layout is the Main Kit.

I am scrapping photos of my girls in their Texas Tech jerseys…I am documenting how hard it can be to get that “perfect” photo.  LOL!

ahsang HKC smile 1

I have my second process video on this layout:

I started out by fussy cutting the wreath from the Pinkfresh Studio Meadow paper.  I absolutely love this paper…I’ve already fussy cut this wreath and used it on a layout before, which you can see here.  I also used one of the Hip Kit Club subscriber cut files from September, and cut it out of white cardstock.  Since the cut file is supposed to mirror the Pinkfresh Studio wreath, I thought it would be a perfect layer behind the wreath to create some depth and dimension.

ahsang HKC smile 5

I used the blue cardstock, and 2 of the Shimmerz products to create splatters in a circular pattern.  I attached the wreath cut file, then layered the cut file on top, slightly off set, and attached them to the cardstock with a little machine stitching.

ahsang HKC smile 3

I backed my photos with some HKC exclusive project life cards, and then embellished them with gold vellum leaves that I fussy cut from the Maggie Holmes specialty paper, and a few leaves from the Pinkfresh Studio ephemera pack.  I added a Smile black puffy thicker as my title.

ahsang HKC smile 4

I typed my journaling and added the strips to my layout.  To finish off my layout, I added 3 black puffy heart stickers, and 3 gold dots from the Pinkfresh Studio gold puffy alpha.

I really love how my layout turned out, and I hope you do too!

Happy Friday!

It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello crafty peeps!

I was challenged to make a grid project, so I used some HKC exclusive Project Life cards, and made it happen.  Grid layouts are one of my go-tos, so I was more than happy to make this layout!  Today I’m using the September 2018 Main Kit, Color Kit, Project Life Kit, and Embellishment Kit.

I’m so happy it’s October!  We always go trick-or-treating with friends and family, and I look forward to it every year!  (Probably because we always go eat barbecue after, haha!)  These photos are from a few years back…aren’t my Hermione Granger and Little Red Riding Hood the cutest you’ve ever seen?!

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 2

I used a piece of black cardstock from my stash, and made a grid by machine stitching some wonky lines (which I carefully measured out before hand, haha!).  I used the 3 shimmerz products that we got in the color kit to splatter each section with one color…I really love the way these shimmerz pop on the dark background.  I don’t know if the photos do it justice, but on the top row from the left, I used Wisteria Lane, then Cotton Candy in the middle, and Mustard Seed on the right.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 1

Next, I just got to work embellishing the sections with Project Life cards (the yellow is one that I cut out of one of the pattern papers), photos, stickers and other embellishments.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 5

I made some layered hearts embellishments by die cutting different sized hearts from some of the pattern papers, and then machine stitching them down the middle.  You can see another layout, where I used a bunch of these heart embellishments in my blog post here.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 4

For my title, I stamped the labels included in the Vicki Boutin stamp set from this month’s color kit, and added the purple Pinkfresh Studio mini puffy alphas.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 3

I really love how this layout turned out, and I hope you do to.  If you haven’t made a grid layout yet, you should totally give it a try!  If you need more grid layout inspiration, you can check out my blog posts for more examples here, here, and here.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a lovely day!

Happy Sunday!

Two fall layouts, featuring Pinkfresh Studio

Hello crafty friends!  Today I’m sharing 2 fall layouts I created with the gorgeous Indigo Hills 2 collection from Pinkfresh Studio.  This collection is so beautiful and perfect for fall colored layouts!

For my first layout, I was inspired by the elongated hexagon wood veneer.  I chose the bigger size, and traced it onto a scrap piece of cardstock.  I used that template to cut out the same shape and size out of some of the pattern papers in the collection.  I used the Glen, Valley, Gorge, Ridge, Meadow, and Eminence.

I decided to use a royal blue cardstock for my layout, because it worked well with the photo and the colors in the IH2 collection.  I splattered it with some gold ink, and then I arranged the hexagon in a random pattern, trying to make sure none of the same patterns were right next to each other.  I machine stitched on a few of the hexagons.  I also decided to hand stitch some hexagons in 3 of the spots.

Next, I backed my photo with the gorgeous Ridge paper, and adhered it to the layout with foam squares.  I added my title, using the gold puffy alpha stickers and mini puffy alpha stickers.

I finished my layout by embellishing my photo with just a few things…I really want the hexagons to be the star of the show (along with my photo).  I added a few chipboard sticker accents, a tag from the journaling spot embellishments, and another one of the wood hexagons.

For my second layout, I decided to make some layered hearts embellishments.  I die cut different sized hearts from the papers: Gorge, Ridge, Eminence.

I used the negatives of the hearts that I die cut as a makeshift stencil.  I mixed white embossing paste, with just a little bit of the lavender watercolor, and added some hearts to white cardstock.  I also watered down some more of the lavender watercolor to add some splatters onto the page.

I typed my journaling on my typewriter beforehand, directly to the background.  I backed my photos with the Ridge paper, and adhered them to the layout towards the top and all the way to the right.

I embellished my layout in a diagonal across my layout.  I filled in the spaces with the layered hearts embellishments that I made, and a flower cluster that I fussy cut from the Glen paper.  I also added the rainbow from the ephemera pack.

I wanted to add more hearts to fill in some of the spaces, so I used some from the chipboard stickers and the puffy sticker packs.

I slightly embellished the photos with a couple puffy stickers, and a few ephemera pieces.  For my title, I used the mini puffy alpha.

To finish off my layout, I added just a little bit of doodled hearts to mirror the sketchy flowers that I fussy cut.

That’s it for me today.  I love how my layouts turned out.  The second layout’s story is a hard one to tell, but I’m glad I got it down.  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great day!

Happy Friday!

38, Altenew Build-A-Flower: Flourishing Zinnia Blog Hop + Giveaway

Flourishing Zinnia_Blog Hop

Hello friends and welcome!  Today, I’m here to share with you a layout I made using the new Build-a-flower: Flourishing Zinnia stamp & die set from Altenew.

Blog Post BAF Flourishing Zinnia

Be sure to stop by the Altenew scrapbook blog and card blog and follow along the blog hop for more inspiration and giveaways.  (More information below.)

I decided to create a scrapbook layout using the stamps and die.  One of the great things about making your own embellishments is that you can choose the colors you want to make them.  My favorite color is blue & mint, so I thought why not!  I made 3 blue flowers and mint colored leaves, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

Altenew-BAF Fl Zinnia-Jung AhSang 1 WEB

I started out by stamping the flowers and leaves using the guide on the back of the stamp set.  I used the Altenew Northern Lights Mini ink cube set for the leaves, and for the flowers, I ended up using Distress inks.  Then, I used the matching dies to cut out the images.

Altenew-BAF Fl Zinnia-Jung AhSang 2 WEB

Next I trimmed my photos, and backed them to a piece of pattern paper from the Altenew Reflection scrapbook collection.  Since I used black & white photos, I could essentially make the layout whatever color I decided to.  I like the monochromatic look with just a little pop of color.  I chose a black and white striped paper from the same Reflection collection as my background.  I added a little mixed media on it, although most of it is covered by my photo and embellishments.  I added my flowers and some more bits and pieces from the Reflection scrapbook collection to embellish my layout.  My title is 38, and the “you are simply awesome” sentiment is from the Flourishing Zinnia stamp set.

Altenew-BAF Fl Zinnia-Jung AhSang 3 WEB

Here’s a closeup of the journaling.  I just found some funny “adulthood” quotes on Pinterest, and used them as my journaling to joke about me turning 38.  Ha!
