Shine, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends!  Today I’m sharing a layout I created for the Hip Kit Club blog for sketch Friday!  I am using the May 2019 kits.  I used the Main kit, Embellishment kit, and the cardstock kit.

Here is this week’s sketch:

I love a good diagonal circle layout, which you can see some examples of here, here and here, so this sketch was right up my alley!  I was also challenged to create a project with a white background, and to use lots of layers and create texture.

Here is my take on the sketch:

ahsang HKC shine 2

I created lots of layers with my circles.  There are lots of circles popped up with foam squares, there are some glued straight to the white yardstick, and there are 2 circles that I cut out of the white cardstock ahead of time (using my silhouette cameo), and I asked them with pattern paper and foam tape.

ahsang HKC shine 5

I also created a frame for my photo with circle metal dies, and I added some texture with machine stitching, and depth by popping it up with foam tape.

ahsang HKC shine 4

I created more texture by roughening up the edges of some of the circles.  I also stitched through a few of the circles with the + patterns as well.

On some of the elements, I add foam tape to just the top of the embellishment, and glue the bottom of the embellishment with liquid glue.  I did that with the hand sticker (which I backed with white cardstock, and fussy cut out).  It makes the embellishment look like it’s popping off the page in a little different way then had I added foam tape to the entire embellishment.  I hope that makes sense, lol!

There were so many elements that were perfect for a school themed girl layout…the lightbulb and the kitty notebook from the HKC exclusive ephemera pack are so perfect to highlight my daughter’s Honor Roll awards!

I love how my layout turned out, and I hope you do as well.  It turned out so girly, and fun, and I love the sketchy vibes of the Crate Paper collection!

Beautiful Treasures, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!  Today I’m sharing a layout that I created using the April 2019 Hip Kit.  I created this layout for sketch Friday over on the Hip Kit Club Group FB page.  I was challenged to use the sketch, use a white background, and add lots of layers and texture to a Mother’s Day themed project.

Here is the sketch:

This is my favorite photo of my mother and I (and my sister), so I decided to document it.  On a piece of white cardstock, I added some texture circles directly to the cardstock.  I created circle stencils that I stuck to the cardstock.  Then I used the HKC exclusive Paige Evans stencil, and texture paste (which I colored with blue shimmez).  Once dry, I used half of the beautiful Paige Evans pattern paper for my background.  I machine stitched through the rays of the pattern paper, continuing my stitching all the way across the white cardstock to create even more texture.  I also hand stitched 3 circles to add another layer of texture.

ahsang beautifultreasures 4

I backed my photo with another of Paige Evan’s pattern paper and a doily.  I adhered the photo so to my layout.

Since the sketch has lots of circles arranged in a diagonal, I used my circle dies to die cut circles from the various papers in the kit.  I kept the circles color coordinated with the colors of the pattern paper.  I arranged them across the layout, being mindful of the sizes and colors.

ahsang beautifultreasures 3

I embellished some of the circles.  I also embellished the bottom left corner of the photo with a few flowers.  I fussy cut my title from a Paige Evans pattern paper, and I love how it echos how I feel about my mom.

I love how my layout turned out, and I’m so happy that I’ll have this photo in my album.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Don’t forget to stop by the HKC Group FB page for sketch details, and don’t forget to stop by the HKC website to check out the amazing kits.

Let’s go, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!  Today I’m sharing a layout I created, inspired by the HKC sketch.  I encourage you to play along and add your layout to the sketch Friday post on the Hip Kit Club Group FB page for a chance to win a $10 GC.

I used the March 2019 Hip kits for this layout.  I’ve used bits and pieces from the Main kit, Pocket Life kit, Embellishment kit, and Color kit.

Here is the layout that I created, using the sketch for inspiration:

Here is this week’s sketch:

I was also challenged to add stitching to my project, which is one of my favorite ways to add texture to my layouts.  Since I was challenged to add stitching, I wanted to step it up a little bit.  I hand cut a tag from white cardstock, and I used the scalloped stitch on my sewing machine, along with the straight stitch, to add some fun texture and interest.  I also added a few hand stitched Xs.

ahsang HKC zoo 5

I decided to create a tag/flag banner like the sketch.  I cut out tags from a few of the pink pattern papers in the Main kit.  I also looked through the embellishments to find more items to turn into tags, like a couple of the Heidi Swapp ephemera, and I found a few tags as well.

ahsang HKC zoo 3

Since there was quite a few animals in these kits, I thought it would be perfect to make a Zoo layout.  I love the birds in the Maggie Holmes chipboard sticker sheet, as well as the butterfly pattern paper from Maggie Homes.  There were a few animals in the Heidi Swapp ephemera also, like the tiger and the Llama.

Next, I tried to balance the layout, especially through color.  Once I put the blue butterfly on the bottom right, I added blue to the top of the banner on the left.  Since I had the bright colored striped tag on the right, I added embellishments in matching colors to the left.

For my title, I chose one of the Maggie Holmes epoxy phrase stickers.  It’s so easy to have a title ready to go, and I love the font!

I really love how my layout turned out, and I’m so glad that I had the sketch for inspiration.  Don’t forget to check out these kits, as well as the April 2019 kits on the Hip Kit Club website.

Happy Sunday!

all together, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends!  I’m here with a layout that I shared on the Hip Kit Club FB page yesterday for Sketch Friday.  I actually designed the sketch for this week, so it was extra fun working on my layout.

I have a process video of the layout as well on my YT channel if you’re interested!

I am using the Hip Kit Club January 2019 Main Kit, and a few pieces from the Color Kit, Project Life Kit, and Embellishment Kit.

Here is what I came up with using the sketch:

ahsang HKC all together 2

We had family photos taken almost 2 years ago, and I’m finally getting the photo scrapped.  As I’ve mentioned in a couple of blog posts now, I am playing catch-up, and am trying to fill the empty spots in my albums.

I divided my layout in half like the sketch, but instead of having a photo take up the whole left side, I used some pattern paper.  I ripped the paper and added machine stitching for some texture.  I still used a large photo on that side (5×7), and I like that I was able to use a photo that I already had printed.

ahsang HKC all together 6

I also made some more of the layered stitched hearts that I have been loving and used many times on past layouts.  I used the Hero Arts Nesting Hearts Infinity dies, and some of the pattern papers from the Main kit.

Like the sketch, I added some large ink splatters.  I used a Shimmerz vibez called Snow Way Man from a previous Color kit, and I used the Prima Color Bloom shimmer spray in Fairy Pond.  I also used the small star cluster stamp from the Shimelle Head in the Clouds stamp set.

I placed the title and journaling like the sketch as well; both are Pinkfresh Studio products.  I love when the titles come together easily, thanks to stickers.

I really like how my layout turned out.  I’m so thrilled to fill another empty spot in my album!

One of a kind, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello everyone!  Today I’m sharing a layout I made for the Hip Kit Club sketch Friday blog!  If you’d like to participate, and have a chance to win a $10 gift card to the Hip Kit Club store, make sure you check out the Hip Kit Club Group Facebook page for all the details!

Here is the sketch for this week:

At the beginning of the year, I sort and put away all the layouts that I have made into their respective albums.  I have family albums, and albums dedicated to each of my 3 girls.  I also take the time to see what layouts I’m missing.  One of the holes I needed to fill was a Halloween layout from a few years ago for my middle daughter.  She went as Snow White, and some of the colors in the January kits were perfect!  I am using the January 2019 Main kit, and the Embellishment kit.  I am also using a piece from the January HKC subscriber printable, which you can find on the Hip Kit Club website under the cut file tab.

ahsang hkc snowwhite 2

Like the sketch, I used 2 photos.  I added a big title to the left of the larger photo, and I added embellishments around the photos.

ahsang hkc snowwhite 5

I knew I wanted to add some color, so I decided to add 3 paper strips to my layout.  I added some machine stitching, and distressed the edges just a little bit.  The pops of red and blue coordinate perfectly with my daughter’s costume.  I also added a few flicks of ink splatters (I used a shimmerz vibes in frostbite that we got from a previous kit).

ahsang hkc snowwhite 3

I chose the gold leaf die cuts, because they were similar to the ones in the sketch, but for the other embellishments, I choose them based on color, and theme to fit my daughter’s costume.  All the blue elements were perfect!  I also love the layered heart stickers from Pinkfresh Studio.  I wanted to use the SMILE sentiment, but it was on a heart that was the wrong color for my layout, so I simply switched it to a blue heart.

The floral arrangement in a cup is from the January printable available to subscribers; the colors were perfect, and I love that little journaling spot on the teacup!  I chose to print and cut with my silhouette machine, but you could totally print it out, then fussy cut!

ahsang hkc snowwhite 4

I really love how this one turned out, and I hope you like it too.  I love the pops of color, yet love the white space to the left even more…totally my style!

Do you guys sort through your albums at the beginning of the year?  Do you try and fill any holes like I do?  I make a list of “need to scrap,” layouts, and I’ve got quite a few holes to fill, but I’m glad I got one done!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!

Amazing layout, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends, I hope you are all having a wonderful day!

It’s time for another Hip Kit Club sketch layout!  I will be using the Main kit, and Color kit for my layout.  I am also using a September freebie cut file that you can access from the Hip Kit Club website.

ahsang HKC amazing 1

I am documenting my oldest girl at the 6th grade awards ceremony.  She was on the A honor roll for the entire year, and we are so proud of her.  She truly is amazing!

Today I’m working with this fabulous sketch by fellow team member Jill:

When I have a sketch assignment, sometimes I follow the sketch pretty closely, other times I take a loose interpretation, and today, I took a few bits and pieces of inspiration for my layout.  I really liked the 3 vertical photos, the layered elements, the journaling strips on the photos, and the pops of yellow.

ahsang HKC amazing 2

First I cut the AMAZING cut file on white cardstock using my silhouette.  I backed the letters with the navy blue Pinkfresh Studio papers, and the stars with the yellow  Amy Tangerine paper.  I added machine stitching on the stars to help them stand out a bit.

ahsang HKC amazing 4

On the double thick white cardstock, I sprayed the Mustard Seed shimmerz directly onto the cardstock, concentrating the spray towards the middle.  I also added some splatters using the shimmerz nozzle.

ahsang HKC amazing 5

I added my photos on another piece of white cardstock that I trimmed to about 5 inches wide.  I glued on a piece of the Pinkfresh Studio paper to the middle photo as a mat, and I trimmed the Pinkfresh Studio ephemera frame as an extra border under that photo.

ahsang HKC amazing 3

I used foam squares and machine stitching to pull all my elements together.  To finish off my layout, I added some journaling strips that I typed on my typewriter, gold asterisks from the alpha set included in the Main kit, and a few stamps from the Vicki Boutin stamp set.

I am loving these kits, I love this cut file, and I really like how my layout came together using the sketch as the inspiration!  Don’t forget to stop by the Hip Kit Club Group Facebook page to take part in this weeks sketch!

Happy Saturday!

Go Ellie Go, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends!  I have a layout to share with you that I created for sketch Friday on the Hip Kit Club blog.  I am using bits and pieces from the April 2018 Main Kit, Color Kit, Embellishment Kit, and Project Life Kit.

Ellie recently learned to ride her bike with no training wheels!  Yay!  She was very brave and worked through all the falls.  (Those falls are so hard on a Mama’s heart!)  She learned pretty quickly though, and we are so proud.  Of course I took tons of photos so I could scrapbook them!

Here is the sketch designed by Jill Sprott:

Here is my layout:

ahsang HKC goElliego 1

This week’s sketch was not my typical style, but I decided to fully embrace it, and be inspired by it.  That’s the beauty of sketches…it encourages us to try something we normally wouldn’t.

I started with the stencil from this month’s color kit, and a pink distress oxide ink (Picked Raspberry from a previous color kit).  I added some ink splashes too, as usual.  Then I chose some coordinating papers from the kit.  I chose the yellow paper first to match my daughter’s helmet, then I chose 2 more papers that coordinated with the yellow.

ahsang HKC goElliego 4

I picked 3 photos that would tell the story, one of her ready to learn, one of her and my husband teaching her, and one of her finally riding on her own.  I then embellished each one of the photos with flowers and puffy stickers.

ahsang HKC goElliego 3

ahsang HKC goElliego 5

For my title, I chose the HKC exclusive ombre puffy alpha stickers!  The color & size are perfect for my page!  They might be my favorite item from the April kits.  If you got the kits, what are your favorites?

I’m so happy with how my layout turned out, and I’m glad I was challenged by the sketch!  I hope you were inspired to get crafty!
