2 cards featuring Simon Says Stamp’s You Matter stamp set

Hey guys!  How are you?  I am still trying to cool off in this Texas heat, lol!  I’m officially in my 3rd trimester, and I feel like I’m carrying around a personal furnace!

It’s September 1st, and that means…Woo hoo, it’s #Stamptember at Simon Says Stamp!  A lot of exclusive product is being released today.  I received the Simon Says Stamp You Matter sentiment stamp set to try out, and it is an awesome set!  It is so versatile, and I love that giant scripted “you.”

I made 2 cards:

ahsang SSS you matter 1

ahsang SSS you matter 2ahsang SSS you matter 3ahsang SSS you matter 4

I know I’ll get a lot of use out of this sentiment set.

To make my cards, I heat white embossed the roses & leaves images onto water color paper that I die cut using stitched rectangle dies.  I water colored the images with Tim Holtz distress inks.  Then, I heat embossed the sentiment with Versafine ink and clear embossing powder.  To finish off my card, I first popped it up using foam tape and then I added gold splatters and sequins.

Supplies used:

cards for the Lasting Hearts Card Drive

Hello friends!  Today I’m sharing a few cards I made for the Lasting Hearts Card Drive.

The Lasting Hearts Card Drive is trying to provide comfort to mothers “who have lost a piece of their heart.”  I am hoping my cards will bring comfort to a mother who has just lost a baby.  Miscarriage.

I have to admit that when I read about this card drive on Jennifer McGuire’s blog post, it struck a particular part of my heart.  Not many people know this, but I know what it is to loose a piece of your heart…in fact, I have lost a piece of my heart twice in the last few years.  I know what it feels like to have silence fill the room where a heart beat should be.  I know what it feels like to cry so hard, so much and so long that there are no more tears left.  I am very thankful for the 2 blessings that are our girls, and can only leave the rest up to God.

You can send in cards for this card drive too, or you can make a monetary donation.  All the information is in the above linked post on Jennifer McGuire’s blog.

Here are more close up pictures of each card and some product details (I will provide links where I can):

Caring Hearts Card Drive

Hey guys!  I’m sharing some of the cards that I made for the caring hearts card drive 2015.  This card drive collects handmade holiday cards to send along to those living in nursing homes.  You can read about it on Jennifer McGuire’s blog or on Vera Yate’s blog.  I recently sent 30 cards, and I am going to be sharing some on my blog here today.  (I will post links to supplies I used at the bottom of this post)

These 6 cards feature Lawn Fawn’s recent release.  I used Toboggan together and Ready, Set, Snow.  I did a lot of copic coloring, distress ink skies, and snow using the Simon Says Stamp falling snow stencil.

For the next 6 cards, I used Wplus9 Holiday Boughs stamp set, Hero Arts Family and Friends stamp set, and Essentials by Ellen Mondo Poinsettia by Julie Ebersole stamp set.  I did more copic coloring and lots of gold embossing.

For the next 6 cards, I used Mama Elephant Merry Script creative cuts, Mama Elephant Charmed stamp set, Simon Says stamp & Clearly Besotted collaboration Holiday Banners stamp set, and Tim Holtz Holiday Knit layering stencil.

The last 4 cards I have feature Lawn Fawn Winter Penguin stamp, Lawn Fawn Winter Sparrows stamp set, Lawn Fawn Love you a Latte stamp set, and My Favorite Things Fall Florals stamp set.  (I hand painted that red & black plaid background after seeing Kristina Werner’s card here.)

I hand wrote a holiday message inside each card, signed my name, and included my state with a gold sharpie marker.

Share handmade kindness & tips for using My Favorite Things “closed” dies

Hey guys!  I’m here to share some handmade kindness.  If you haven’t heard about Jennifer McGuire’s Share Handmade Kindness Challenge, you can read about it here.

The challenge for week one is to send something handmade to family and/or friends.  Here is what I created for a friend who’s having a stressful week:

ahsang fall bouqet

I made this card using My Favorite Things Fall Florals stamp set and matching die-namics.  I also used Hero Arts Ombre Ink Pads in Light Ruby to Royal RedButter to Orangepink to red.  The sentiment is from Stampendous Bouquet for You stamp set.  I also used Simon Says Stamp stitched rectangle dies and the oval is from Avery Elle’s sweet scallops elle-ments die.  I finished things off with a twine bow and enamel dots!

I have a tip (in pictures) for you when using My Favorite Things die-namics “closed dies.”

ahsang mft dies how to

I believe with this particular company, you’re supposed to stamp the image after you die cut it first.  I like to stamp my image first, and then die cut my images.  I am not that great at lining up my stamps, so I had to figure out a way to make these dies work for me.  I had seen a few card makers cut the die out of cardstock to use as a template.  I was doing it that way too, but got tired of making that template every time I used the dies, and having to throw them away.  I decided that I needed something more sturdy.  I grabbed one of my daughter’s plastic folders brought home at the end of the previous school year, and die cut all the fall floral die-namics.  I cut a little slit in one side, so I could pull it away after fitting my die in place.  As long as you hold the die firmly in place, you should get a great lined up cut!  For storage, I put all my dienamic templates in a little ziplock bag, and labeled it at the top!  I hope that make sense.  If not my words, maybe my pictures will help you out!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you join in the share handmade kindness challenge!

Happy Thursday ya’ll!

STAMPtember: Holiday Banners card

Hey everyone!

I’ve got my very first holiday card to share with you!  You can also see my card on the Simon Says Stamp blog.

I was sent the Simon Says Stamp & Clearly Besotted collaboration stamp set called Holiday Banners, and I just had to get in the craft room to make a holiday card!  Also, SSS now has pre-cut, pre-scored 120 lb A2 sized card bases, and I absolutely love the convenience of these!

Here’s my shaker card:

ahsang SSS & CB 1

ahsang SSS & CB 2

From the stamp set, I used the snowflake stamp, the joyeux NOEL banner, and the circle snowflake stamp.

Here is a quick rundown of how I created this card.

  1. For the background, I repeatedly stamped the snowflake image from the set using Versamark ink on white card stock.  I added clear embossing powder, then heat set the snowflakes.
  2. Using the Tim Holtz ink blending tool, I blended distress inks in colors Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, and Shaded Lilac right on top of the snowflakes.  Since I heat embossed, the snowflakes resisted the ink.
  3. I took my Versamark ink pad and smooshed it straight onto my background piece.  Then, I added clear/glitter embossing powder on top, and heat set the entire piece.
  4. On another piece of card stock, I stamped the “joyeux NOEL” banner and the circle snowflake using Versamark ink.  I added Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder and heat set.
  5. Once cooled, I hand cut the banner.
  6. On another piece of white card stock, I die cut a frame using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle dies.
  7. I stamped the “bring on the magic” sentiment from Kelly Purkey’s Simply Magic stamp set (which is a Disney themed stamp set) with black ink.
  8. I assembled the shaker portion, filling it with Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins and Martha Stewart Iridescent Hearts Glitter, using acetate and a double layer of foam tape.
  9. I attached the shaker to a Simon Says Stamp pre-cut card base.
  10. Then, I added the banner on top with glue dots.
  11. To finish off my card, and to add even more sparkle, I added more sequins and some tiny gems to my card.

That’s it!  Hope you like my card!  Even though here in Texas, we are still experiencing temperatures in the high 90s, I hope you’re enjoying cooler temperatures where ever you are.  Less than 100 days till Christmas!  What?!

Happy Tuesday!
