Frida, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing a layout of my daughter dressed as Frida Kahlo for Halloween this year.  When we were trying to figure out her costume this year, I told her to think about some inspiring women.  This girl loves art, so when I suggested Frida, she was all for it!

I thought the colors, florals, and ephemera of the Hip Kit Club October kit was perfect for a Frida layout.  I was challenged to use the Main Kit, and add in some fussy cutting and layered ephemera.  I am using the October 2018 Main Kit.

First I started off by fussy cutting all the hexagons from the Paige Evans paper.  I used one of the hexagons as a template, and cut out a few more from the other pattern paper in the kit as well.  I ended up with way more hexagons than I needed, so I decided to layer them, and stitch down the middle, as I have done previously with other shapes.

Next, I decided to paint some black stripes onto a piece of white cardstock.  I’ve always wanted to try this, as I’ve been inspired by other scrapbookers like Paige Evans, Missy Whidden, and Jana McCarthy, and I thought if not on a Frida layout, then when?!  LOL!

Next, I added my photos, a title, some journaling, and a few bits of ephemera.

I have to admit that the 3 tubes of paint and the tiny paint brush is from the Paige Evans puffy sticker sheet included in the October 2018 Project Life kit.  They were too too perfect for a Frida layout that I couldn’t resist!

I added some splatter, and a few hand doodled stars to finish my layout.

I love love love how this layout turned out, and I hope you do too!

Happy Saturday!

One More Chapter Mini Album, featuring Hip Kit Club, and a YT flip through video

Hello crafty friends!  How are you?

I was challenged to make a mini album for my Hip Kit Club project this week.  Today, I’m sharing an envelope mini album that I made using the October 2018 Hip Kits.  I used the Main kit, Project Life kit, and the Embellishment kit.

I created a mini album for my 8 year old girl; I wanted to make something special for her to get excited about reading.  She is an excellent, accelerated reader, but she doesn’t really enjoy reading [YET].  My older daughter and I love to read, and I wanted her to get excited about reading too.

I have a YouTube video, where I flip through the album, and I also include a little tutorial on how to use the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board to make your own envelopes.  I have close up photos at the end of the video as well.

I knew I wanted to use some of the HKC exclusive project life cards in this mini album.  I also wanted to include different sized pieces, and interactive pieces that my daughter could add to herself.  I remembered that I had the We R MK 1-2-3 Punchboard, and I wanted to use that to make custom envelopes to include in my mini album.

I chose some cute papers from the kit to make my envelopes.  I also chose a few Project Life cards, and along with the envelopes, they became the foundation pages of my mini album.

I embellished the pages with stickers, die cuts, tags that I fussy cut from a Paige Evans paper, and I loved using the Heidi Swapp stamp set that was included in the Project Life kit.

I included a few reading quotes that I found on Pinterest, and a few photos of my daughter.  I made sure to leave some of the pages blank, so that she could fill them in herself.

In one of the envelopes, I wrote a letter to my daughter, telling her how wonderful she is, and that I encourage her to read.  In the other envelopes, I left some blank cardstock pieces, and a few journaling tags for her to fill out or draw pictures about her favorite books.

I really love how this project turned out, and I can’t wait to see what my daughter does with it!  I hope you like my project, and I hope you are inspired to get crafty!  Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Sunday!

Autumn Vibes, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello crafty peeps!

I was challenged to make an autumn layout using a cut file, so that’s what I will be sharing today.  I am using the October 2018 Hip Kits.  I am using the Main kit, Cardstock kit, Embellishment kit, and Project Life kit.  I am also using an October cut file, which you can access here once you’ve logged in to your account;  I am using the Autumn Vibes Subscriber cut file, designed by Kim Watson.

When I was in high school, living in the South, fall meant football season.  I was in the marching band, and I have so many fun memories of sitting in the stadium…so happy when the weather got chilly because it meant we could have hot chocolate, cheering on our football team playing fan favorite tunes.  My husband and I met in high school band, so we both share those memories.  It’s come full circle for me, as my daughter is now entering this season of her life.  She’s only in middle school now, but she’s in band and on the dance team, so she’s already at the football games.  Now, I get to experience these games in a new way, as a parent, and perhaps a chaperone.

Back to the layout:  I die cut the sentiment, my title, out of the Arroyo cardstock from the kit.  I knew I wanted a vertical layout, so I added some mixed media to the background down the middle of my paper.  I added some shimmerz splatters from older color kits, and I also used a paint brush to paint on a little bit of color where my photo will be placed.  Then, I used a stencil from a previous color kit to add some white embossing paste for a tone on tone look.

Next, I chose some flowers and leaves from the Paige Evans whimsical floral embellishment pack to frame my photo.  I fussy cut some of the labels from the PE Whimsical 08 paper, and machine stitched them on my layout.  I also used some of the Jen Hadfield phrase stickers.

Then, I just looked for little embellishments to fill in some of the spots on my layout.  I used stickers, puffy stickers, and rub-ons for the PE whimsical collection.  I also used the Happy tag from the Vicki Boutin embellishment pack.

I added my journaling strips that I typed up on the computer.  When I was designing this layout, Kenny Chesney’s “The Boys of Fall” song popped into my head, so I did a little play on the lyrics, and made my journaling about the girls of fall.  I thought it was cute, but is it cheesy?  haha!

To finish off my layout, I just added a couple of torn edges on each side of the layout, backed it with pattern paper, and added machine stitching, a la Missy Whidden.

That’s it for me today friends!  I hope you liked my layout, and I hope you’re inspired to get crafting!  If you haven’t checkout out these kits yet, I highly encourage that you do!

Happy Wednesday!

Some things never change, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing an all-about-me layout inspired by the October mood board.  This is my first project using the October 2018 kits, and I have to say, I am in love!  I am using the Main Kit, Project Life Kit, and Embellishment Kit.

Here is the October mood board:

I was inspired by the top middle image.  I love the layered look, the torn edges, and the colors.  I also like that there was some white space left in the top of the image.

I started off by cutting up some pieces of pattern paper from the kits into various widths, tearing some of the sides.  Next, I arranged the pieces of paper how I liked them on white cardstock, making sure to keep the adhesive close to the bottom edge only, as I wanted the tops of the papers to raise up from the cardstock to add texture and depth.  I added some machine stitching to the pieces as well.

Next I added some gold splatters (Heidi Swapp gold color shine) and let it dry.

Then it was time to add my photos.  Since I was challenged to make a layout all-about-me, I chose a recent photo of myself and my high school cap and gown photo.  My 20 year high school reunion recently passed, and my husband and I couldn’t help but remember our time together in high school.  We were band nerds, haha!  On my layout, I decided to talk about how some things never change.

Next, I added my title, and some journaling strips that I typed on the computer.

To finish off my layout, I just looked for embellishments that helped compliment my story, keeping in mind the color scheme I wanted to stay with.  I really love all the crafty themed embellishments in Paige Evans’ new Whimsical collection!

I am really pleased with how my layout turned out.  I really love all the texture and dimension in my project!  Without the mood board, I am not sure I would ever have come up with this layout idea!ahsang HKC some things 1

I hope you like my layout, and I hope I’ve inspired you to dig into your Hip Kits.  If you haven’t gotten your hands on the October kits yet, stop by the website and take a look!

Happy Monday!
