Technique Tuesday National Scrapbook Day blog hop

Hello friends and welcome to the Technique Tuesday blog hop! May 4th is National Scrapbook Day (NSD), and we are starting the celebration early!

For this blog hop, I made a Mom life layout!

I wanted to focus on the Sassy Day stamp set, so I had the idea to stamp them all, and turn them into labels.

First, I used some Distress Oxide inks, and ink blended pink, blue, and purple on white cardstock. Once dry, I used the stamps, and some black ink to stamp the sassy sentiments, making sure to leave enough room to die cut labels. Next, I used one of the label dies from the Essential Stitched Labels crafting dies set to die cut the sentiments. I also die cut some pattern papers from Paige Evans, Maggie Holmes, and Shimelle’s collections that I had in my stash.

On a letter sized piece of white cardstock, I added some pink watercolor. Once dry, I added the labels. I used foam tape to adhere the sassy day stamped labels to the background. I attached the pattern paper labels to the background with just a little bit of glue, and then I machine stitched through the middle.

I added my 2 photos with foam squares. Next, I added a Mom Life title, and journaling strips.

Since my background is pretty busy already, I just added just a few embellishments. I added a butterfly and puffy stickers from my stash.

Shine Bright, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing a layout that I recently shared on the Hip Kit Club FB page. I was challenged to use the mood board for inspiration. This is my last layout using the fabulous March 2019 Hip Kits. I used a little bit of all the kits, as they coordinated so well with my project! My daughter had an Island-themed choir concert recently, and the Maggie Holmes Sunny Days collection was perfect for my layout!

Here is the Mood Board:

I was particularly drawn to the pink image with the florals lined up on the left side.

Here is my layout inspired by the mood board:

I decided to fussy cut the florals in one of the Maggie H pattern papers. I lined them up on the left side of pink cardstock, and adhered them with foam squares for dimension.

ahsang HKC shinebright 4

I added 3 photos, and embellished them. I added a few more fussy cut flowers, a butterfly (which was also on the mood board), and some typed journaling. I also added the shells from the MH collection, and they were perfect; one of the songs the choir sang was “Pearly Shells.”

My title is a combination of the pink thickers, and the epoxy word stickers. I really like the font on the epoxy stickers!

I finished off my layout with a little cluster of Heidi Swapp labels in the bottom right. I added the date and the occasion.

I love love love how this turned out! While it did take me some time to fussy cut the flowers, I love the impact they give!

I hope you are inspired by the mood board, and my layout. Don’t forget to check out the Hip Kit Club website…the April 2019 kits are amazing!

Happy Tuesday!

Let’s go, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends! Today I’m sharing a layout I created, inspired by the HKC sketch. I encourage you to play along and add your layout to the sketch Friday post on the Hip Kit Club Group FB page for a chance to win a $10 GC.

I used the March 2019 Hip kits for this layout. I’ve used bits and pieces from the Main kit, Pocket Life kit, Embellishment kit, and Color kit.

Here is the layout that I created, using the sketch for inspiration:

Here is this week’s sketch:

I was also challenged to add stitching to my project, which is one of my favorite ways to add texture to my layouts. Since I was challenged to add stitching, I wanted to step it up a little bit. I hand cut a tag from white cardstock, and I used the scalloped stitch on my sewing machine, along with the straight stitch, to add some fun texture and interest. I also added a few hand stitched Xs.

I decided to create a tag/flag banner like the sketch. I cut out tags from a few of the pink pattern papers in the Main kit. I also looked through the embellishments to find more items to turn into tags, like a couple of the Heidi Swapp ephemera, and I found a few tags as well.

ahsang HKC zoo 3

Since there was quite a few animals in these kits, I thought it would be perfect to make a Zoo layout. I love the birds in the Maggie Holmes chipboard sticker sheet, as well as the butterfly pattern paper from Maggie Homes. There were a few animals in the Heidi Swapp ephemera also, like the tiger and the Llama.

Next, I tried to balance the layout, especially through color. Once I put the blue butterfly on the bottom right, I added blue to the top of the banner on the left. Since I had the bright colored striped tag on the right, I added embellishments in matching colors to the left.

For my title, I chose one of the Maggie Holmes epoxy phrase stickers. It’s so easy to have a title ready to go, and I love the font!

I really love how my layout turned out, and I’m so glad that I had the sketch for inspiration. Don’t forget to check out these kits, as well as the April 2019 kits on the Hip Kit Club website.

Happy Sunday!

Mason jar mini album, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends! I was challenged to create an interactive project using the Hip Kit Club March 2019 Main kit. When I think of interactive elements, I immediately think of pockets and sequin shaker elements. I decided to make a mini album of our recent Spring Break vacation, and I used a HKC free subscriber cut file from February called Candy Hearts, which you can access from the Hip Kit Club website. I love the mason jar, and it’s perfect for a shaker element! The shape is also the perfect size for a shaped mini album.

ahsang HKC SBmini 1

First, I cut the mason jars from white, pink, and blue cardstock (from the March Cardstock kit) using my Silhouette Cameo.

ahsang HKC SBmini 2

I also cut just the outline of the jar on a scrap piece of cardstock, so I could use it as a template for pattern paper. The shape of the jar is so simple, I was fine tracing and fussy cutting it from the paper, instead of sending each pattern paper through the silhouette machine. Once I had everything cut, I figured out where I wanted each jar to go, and I adhered them back to back. I added my photos, and then added a lot of embellishments. I absolutely love the Hip Kit Club Exclusive ephemera pack…it was perfect for my mini album!

ahsang HKC SBmini 3

For the first interactive element, I created a pocket. I just traced the lower half of a mason jar on a piece of pattern paper. I cut the top off in a diagonal, and I adhered it to the back using my sewing machine.

ahsang HKC SBmini 4

I love that Heidi Swapp watercolor pattern paper. I have used it on all of my projects, and I only have tiny scraps left! For the next interactive element, I created a shaker. I used clear acetate (you could recycle clear plastic packaging), thins strips of foam tape, and sequins to create my shaker. It’s such a fun element, and I know my girls will love flipping through this mini!

ahsang HKC SBmini 5

I really like to fill up the pages in my minis with lots of photos and embellishments. I also like to add interest with different textures and finishes. The mini hearts and the epoxy thinkers add the perfect hint of shine.

ahsang HKC SBmini 6

I added even more texture to the mini album by adding machine stitching, and distressing some of the edges on the jars and ephemera.

ahsang HKC SBmini 7

To finish off my album. I punched a hole in the jars, added them onto a ring, and then added a shiny ribbon.

ahsang HKC SBmini 8

It was so much fun creating this little mini album. I hope you were inspired by my project.

Happy Saturday!

It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello crafty peeps!

I was challenged to make a grid project, so I used some HKC exclusive Project Life cards, and made it happen. Grid layouts are one of my go-tos, so I was more than happy to make this layout! Today I’m using the September 2018 Main Kit, Color Kit, Project Life Kit, and Embellishment Kit.

I’m so happy it’s October! We always go trick-or-treating with friends and family, and I look forward to it every year! (Probably because we always go eat barbecue after, haha!) These photos are from a few years back…aren’t my Hermione Granger and Little Red Riding Hood the cutest you’ve ever seen?!

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 2

I used a piece of black cardstock from my stash, and made a grid by machine stitching some wonky lines (which I carefully measured out before hand, haha!). I used the 3 shimmerz products that we got in the color kit to splatter each section with one color…I really love the way these shimmerz pop on the dark background. I don’t know if the photos do it justice, but on the top row from the left, I used Wisteria Lane, then Cotton Candy in the middle, and Mustard Seed on the right.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 1

Next, I just got to work embellishing the sections with Project Life cards (the yellow is one that I cut out of one of the pattern papers), photos, stickers and other embellishments.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 5

I made some layered hearts embellishments by die cutting different sized hearts from some of the pattern papers, and then machine stitching them down the middle. You can see another layout, where I used a bunch of these heart embellishments in my blog post here.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 4

For my title, I stamped the labels included in the Vicki Boutin stamp set from this month’s color kit, and added the purple Pinkfresh Studio mini puffy alphas.

ahsang HKC hocus pocus 3

I really love how this layout turned out, and I hope you do to. If you haven’t made a grid layout yet, you should totally give it a try! If you need more grid layout inspiration, you can check out my blog posts for more examples here, here, and here.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a lovely day!

Happy Sunday!

Mary Poppins, a scrapbook layout featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing a layout featuring the September 2018 Hip Kits. I am using the Main kit, the Embellishment kit, and the enamel dots from the Project Life kit. I really wanted to create something with the Cottage paper from the Maggie Holmes Willow Lane collection, so I fussy cut all the little houses. I also picked the Eminence paper from Pinkfresh Studio (the blue to ombre), and for some reason, I thought it needed to be a Halloween layout.

ahsang HKC maryp 2

I am a few years behind on my Halloween layouts, so it was a perfect opportunity to scrap one of the years. I chose photos from a few years ago, and wanted to document one of my older daughter’s costumes. I had asked her several years in a row if she wanted to go as Mary Poppins, and that year, she finally said yes. I bought a cheap straw hat on Amazon, spray painted it black, and hot glued some flowers on. The shirt, ribbon, tights, and shoes we already had, so I just had to buy the skirt. I LOVE how she looked! It’s one of my favorite costumes that she has had!

ahsang MP

ahsang HKC maryp 1

So for the layout, I lined up the fussy cut houses in 2 rows, and I stitched through them. I added my photos, and some journaling that I typed onto vellum. They are just some fun quotes from Mary Poppins.

ahsang HKC maryp 3ahsang HKC maryp 5

To finish off my layout, I added the fun alpha title, and then I flicked some watered down white paint to add some stars to the sky.

ahsang HKC maryp 4

Even though I didn’t use any Halloween themed products, I think my layout goes with the photos really well. The rows of houses remind me of the houses from the movie, and like I said, the background paper really made me think of Halloween.

I hope you guys like my layout…I think it turned out cute! I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty with your Hip Kits!

Happy Thursday!

Then & Now, featuring Hip Kit Club, and a YT process video

Hi friends!

Today, I’m sharing a layout with you featuring Hip Kit Club August 2018 kits. I am using the Main kit, Project Life kit, and Embellishment kit.

I am scrapping a Then & Now page of my youngest in her Dock A Tot, and her Dock A Tot grande. Time is just flying by with this one…she is getting so big already! *Sad face

ahsang HKC then&now 2

Also, I’m so excited to share that I have my very first ever YouTube process video!

I’ve done layout like this before where I puzzle piece together embellishments on a layout. There’s really no layering or mixed media. I love how clean and simple it looks, yet graphic it looks as well.

ahsang HKC then&now 3ahsang HKC then&now 5

If you watch the video, you’ll see that it’s mostly just me pushing embellishments around until I like how things look. Also, since I’m going for a graphic look, I want things to line up and be as straight as possible.

I hope you like my layout and my process video!
