my Homer, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends and welcome!  It’s time for another installment of the Sketch Challenge for Hip Kit Club.  I am using the November 2018 Hip Kits.  I am using the Main Kit, the Project Life Kit, and the Color Kit.

Here is the sketch:

When I saw this sketch, I immediately thought it would be perfect for a Traveler’s Notebook spread.  Doesn’t it look like 2 halves put together?  I have been loving TN spreads recently!

Here is what I came up with:

This was my sweet pup Homer.  He’s been gone for years now, but he’s still my favorite boy, and I miss him terribly.  He was such a smart boy!  He loved his tennis balls, was awesome at Hide & Seek, and loved me the most.  I still think of him often, and decided that I needed his photo in my TN!

On the left side, I used 2 of the Shimmerz to add some ink splatters.  I created a title using a combination of the Jen Hadfield phrase thickers and the HKC exclusive blue puffy alphas.  I also added a phrase sticker from the Heidi Swapp cardstock sticker sheet.

I added a small cluster of embellishments at the top.  The pink flag and the heart are from the HKC exclusive ephemera.  The little flower is one that I fussy cut from a Jen Hadfield pattern paper.

On the right side, I cut down a piece of Heidi Swapp pattern paper to about 4 3/4 x 8 1/4 in.  I matted the photo with a HKC exclusive Project Life card and another Heidi Swapp pattern paper. ahsang HKC homer 4

I embellished the photo with HKC exclusive ephemera, a Heidi Swapp tag, and a Jen Hadfield wood veneer/ cardstock “thinking of you” frame.

I’m so happy with how things turned out, and I’m so glad that I have my sweet boy’s picture in my TN now.  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!  Don’t forget to check out the November Hip Kits, and if you’d like to take part in our sketch challenge, visit the HKC Group FB page here!

Home Sweet Home, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!

Today I’m sharing my first layout using the November 2018 kits.  I am using the Main Kit, Project Life Kit, Embellishment Kit, Color Kit and Cardstock Kit.  For this project, I was challenged to use Hip Kit Club exclusive products, which was easy to do since this month’s kits are jam packed with exclusives.  A lot of the products have to do with home sweet home, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to make a layout about our new home.  We moved into our dream home just a few months ago!

ahsang HKC home 2

I started off by using some of the products in the color kit.  I used one of the Heidi Swapp cardstock stencils and some white embossing paste to add some texture to the cardstock. Then I used the Shimmerz vibes in Deep Blue Sea & creameez in Good Ol’ Summer Time to add some splatter to the background.

Once dry, I started pulling exclusive elements that I thought I would want to use on my layout.  I cut a few strips of pattern paper (the blue paid & light blue with white leaves paper is an HKC exclusive), and then machine stitched them towards the center of my layout.  I had originally planned to just put my photo on a large pattern paper mat, but then I decided to use an exclusive Project Life card.  I couldn’t quite get the layout right, until I decided to have 2 large pattern paper squares…one for the photo and one for the journaling card.

Next, I just used various exclusives to embellish the squares.  I used HKC exclusives Home Sweet Home ephemera, Home Sweet Home puffy stickers, leaf acetate, and wood veneer stickers.

To finish off my title, I used a Jen Hadfield matte gold phrase sticker that says home, and the HKC exclusive mini puffy alpha stickers to spell out Home Sweet Home.

I am really happy with how my layout turned out, and I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!  Don’t forget to check out all the great exclusives in the November 2018 Hip Kits.

Easter Joy, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hello friends!  I’m here today with a layout share.  I used only the Hip Kit Club April 2018 Main Kit for this layout, with the exception of cardstock.

I’m usually a year behind on Easter/holiday layouts, but I took a photo of my 3 girls on Easter Sunday that I love so much, I had to scrap it.  What about you?  Have you scrapped your Easter photos yet?

I have still been inspired by the recent mood board, so I incorporated a few of the elements on this layout.  I did some, well a lot, of machine stitching on some blue cardstock.  I have to admit that it was a bit time consuming, but I love the texture it gave my layout.  I also loved the hand traced title of the mood board, and I wanted to feature the gorgeous pattern paper, so I created a giant title.  I incorporated the photo as my “O.” I lined each letter and the photo with a fine tip pen.  I love the look!

ahsang HKC EasterJOY 2

I embellished some of the letters with flowers and puffy stickers.  I made 3 clusters so I could create a visual triangle.

This layout did take a little time to complete, but it was relatively easy to put together.  I love the way it turned out!  I hope I’ve inspired you to give giant pattern paper titles a try!

Happy Saturday… and shoutout to my hubs: happy birthday!

Tea Party, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends!  I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Last week was Mood Board week for Hip Kit Club, and today, I’ll be sharing my layout inspired by the mood board.

Here is the mood board, created by fellow team member Jill:

Here is my layout:

I’m scrapping photos of my daughter’s 7th birthday party from last summer.  She had a dress up tea party, and loved it!  It was so cute seeing all the girls get fancy!

First, I was inspired by the thin strips of paper and all the stitching.  I made my own version by cutting up strips of pattern paper from the April Kit.  I added stitching through each of the strips.

ahsang HKC teaparty 5

I was inspired by the hand written water color title.  I decided to make mine with the pink watercolor stripes pattern paper.  I hand cut out my letters, and traced around the edge with a thin tip pen.  This turned out to be my favorite part of my layout!

ahsang HKC teaparty 2

I was also inspired by all the circles and the color yellow on the mood board.  I painted some yellow and pink circles with distress oxide inks.  I die cut various sized circles from pattern paper and project life cards, and used them as embellishments on my layout.

For my project, I used bits and pieces from the Hip Kit Club April 2018 Main Kit, Color Kit, Embellishment Kit, and Project Life Kit.

I hope you like my layout.  I really like how my title turned out!  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!  You might try making a project inspired by the mood board too!

Happy Monday!

Sweet Smile, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey everyone!  I hope you’re having an awesome day!  Today I’m sharing a layout  featuring photos I took of Ruby’s first taste of lemons.  I have to admit that I took these photos specifically for this layout.  I bought some lemons, got my baby dressed in a coordinating outfit, and had a photoshoot in our backyard.  Do any of you crafters create photoshoots just so you can use a particular product in a layout?  There were a few lemon themed products in the March 2018 Hip Kits that I wanted to use, like the Maggie Holmes pattern paper.  Needless to say, the photos I got of Ruby tasting lemons were priceless!  Ha!  I love them!

Here is my layout:

Look at that face on the photo on the left!  LOL!!!

ahsang HKC lemons 4

I used the March 2018 Hip Kits for my layout: Main Kit, Color Kit, Cardstock Kit, and Project Life Kit.  The chiffon cardstock was perfect for a lemon layout, and of course the Maggie Holmes pattern paper.

ahsang HKC lemons 2

I used several techniques on this layout.  I did some fussy cutting (the pink butterflies), I altered the “smile” chipboard with heat embossing, I did some machine stitching, I created some depth with layers and foam adhesive, and I added some paint splatters using the Vicki Boutin watercolors.

I love the way my layout turned out!  I’m so glad I got another page done for Ruby’s album!  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty!

Happy Saturday!

Magical Day, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends!  Today I’m sharing a layout I created using the March 2018 Hip Kits.  I did a lot of fussy cutting, and I altered some thickers to fit my layout.  I used the Hip Kit Club Main Kit and the Project Life Kit for my layout.

Last summer, we went to an American Girl Doll store at the Mall of America while on vacation, and my daughter got her very first AG doll as an early birthday present.  It was a dream come true for her, and it was such a magical day.  Her smile just lit up her face!

ahsang HKC magical 1

As soon as I saw the Dear Lizzy floral paper in the kit, I knew I wanted to fussy cut it.  I kept it out with a pair of scissors on my counter in the living room, and when I had a spare minute, I would fussy cut a flower out.  Next thing you know, I had the whole paper fussy cut.

I have been loving big titles lately, so I incorporated the fussy cut flowers into my title.  I cut out the word MAGICAL on a piece of white cardstock with my silhouette.  I traced the letters on another piece of white cardstock, and filled in the spaces with the flowers I fussy cut.  Then I popped up the cardstock with the letters cut out on top with foam squares.

ahsang HKC magical 2
I love the dimension it created.

I also wanted to use some of the Jen Hadfield word thickers, but the color didn’t really match my layout.  I decided to alter them with heat embossing.  I used VersaMark ink, rose gold embossing powder, and a heat gun to transform the thickers to fit my page.  I actually heat embossed it twice for thicker coverage, and I think they turned out really well!

I am a big fan of white space, and I wanted to keep the focus on the title and journaling, so I kept the other embellishments relatively simple.  I added the acetate butterflies, some Maggie Holmes word stickers, and machine stitching.

I love the way my layout turned out.  I hope I’ve inspired you to make different products work for you.

Happy Thursday!

Then & Now, featuring Hip Kit Club

Hey friends and welcome!  Today I have a layout share for the Hip Kit Club sketch challenge.  There’s a new weekly challenge every Friday over on the Hip Kit Club Member Forum on Facebook.  If you haven’t checked it out, I encourage you to head over there.  There’s lots of inspiration, and you could win a $10 gift certificate to the Hip Kit Club store if you take part!

The sketch this week is from the lovely Jana:

Here is my take on the sketch:

ahsang HKC th&n 1

The March Hip Kits are filled with such “spring-ie” goodness, I knew I wanted to make a spring layout.  We were at our neighborhood park on St. Patrick’s day when I had a strong feeling of deja vu.  My girls were trying to balance together on the sled-looking spring rider, when I suddenly remembered a photo that I took of them together on the same toy on St. Patrick’s day years ago.  I love, love, love these photos!  Of course I had to do a then & now layout.  Look how much L & E have grown!  That word sticker at the top that says “all things grow with love” could not be more perfect for this layout!  I also added a photo that included the baby at the bottom, because that’s the real now.

ahsang HKC th&n 2

I absolutely love the papers from the Main Kit (the floral is from Dear Lizzy) & the pink cardstock from the March Cardstock Kit matches them perfectly!  I used the Vicki Boutin watercolors from the Color Kit to jazz up the pink cardstock a bit before I added my pattern paper layers.  I love that there is a white included in the watercolor set…it allows you to really customize your colors!  For my title, I used the handwriting thickers from the Embellishment Kit.  I love all the butterflies from Jen Hadfield, which are included in the main kit.  I finished off my layout with some word stickers that are in the Project Life Kit.

I love how my layout turned out!  I hope I’ve inspired you to get crafty, and I hope you stop by the HKC Member Forum on FB!
